Purge! Purge through it all! And not like some scary movie (okay, it may be a little scary), I mean all that useless stuff you have laying around your home. You know that piece of furniture that takes up room and has no use or that dress that has been sitting in your closet for 3 years waiting to be worn again. Get rid of it!

The first step to a simpler life is making your surroundings clean and neat with only things that you use daily or that brings beauty to your home. Follow this easy guideline to get started.
- Pick a room. Any room.
- Pick up every item in that room. Just one at a time, mighty duck.
- Now decide- Do you really really need that item? Do you use that item daily? Does it have significance to you?
- If the answer is NO to any of the above, it’s time to ditch it and put it in one of three piles:
- Pile One: Trash- Broken, Stained, in Poor Condition.
- Pile Two: Donate- Worn/Used but in Good Condition.
- Pile Three: Sell- Used Gently, Great Condition. (see my blog on selling items)
- Repeat to next room.
This may take some time. Maybe a few weeks or a couple months, depending on how much time you have and how much stuff you have in your home. Once you complete, you will feel so much better! I recommend decluttering at east once a year. I, myself, go through the house every few months. It’s crazy how much you accumulate in such a short time, even when you do live a minimalist lifestyle.
